Study Guides for Practically ShamelessStudy guide for womens' groupsStudy guide for writers' groups Each study guide is a Microsoft Word document. If you have difficulty opening any study guide, please contact us. Make a suggestion for a study guide How To Use These GuidesThe purpose of a study guide is to stimulate discussion and reflection. Some things to keep in mind:
A final note about questions in any group discussion. A question's purpose is to discover information. A question can also be used to conceal a judgment, conceal a want, or pick a fight. For example, the question, "Have you stopped beating your kids?" conceals a judgment that the person being asked is beating his/her kids. The question, "Does my butt look fat in these jeans?" conceals a desire for a compliment. The question, "Where are we going with this discussion?" conceals a desire to be going someplace different and thus a desire to pick a fight. If you're on the receiving end of a question that seems to have something concealed in it, reply by asking this question: "What would you get out of knowing the answer to your question?" If the person replies honestly, the judgment or desire will become clearer. (More on the subject of questions in groups can be heard on the Clean Talk CD.)
